Electricity Department
Electrification: Brief Background & Status:
- Electricity department is responsible & functioning for electrification in AJK.
- Electricity facility was available to few towns (13,500 Service connections) of District Muzaffarabad & Mirpur up to 1973-74.
- Since then a continuous program was planned to provide electricity to rural and urban population and upto June 2016 4.267 million population has been served.
Electrification: Brief Statistics:
Following electricity distribution network has been expanded to almost 93% population of AJK up to June 2016.

Power Development Organization (PDO)
Hydel Power Generation:
Brief, Background & Status
- PDO was established through an act of legislative assembly in 2014 and is functioning for Generation and Execution of Hydro Power Projects in AJ&K.
- Private Power Cell (PPC) is also located in PDO & functioning as PDO Node for the provision of one window services to private sector investors.
- AJ&K due to its topography has abundant Hydro Power resources and identified Hydro Power potential of AJ&K is approximately 9258.620 MW.
- Entire demand of AJ&K is about 400 MW (at present AJK is getting around 300 MW to 330 MW).
- Current Power Generation in AJ&K is 2362.820 MW (Including 1100 MW from Mangla Dam Raising Project and 969 MW Neelum Jhelum Hydro-Electric Project).
